ISAF Sailing World Cup in Weymouth and Portland reports from Australian Finn coach John Bertrand, the US Finn class 1984 Olympic silver medallist- Reports from Day zero, one and two.
In his Day two report, he notes how Australian Jake Lilley, sitting in tenth place has excellent upwind speed but his downwinds are robbing him of better results.
To sail well in this class these days, height is needed and Lilley at two metres tall has ticked that box.
One can imagine that Bertrand and the young Australian, the 2014 European Junior Champion will focus closely on downwind technique in the months ahead.
Bertrand is closely watching the count down to Rio, Lilley is a very talented young sailor and he is consistently placed in what are now very much Olympic standard World Cup fleets, so even better results are likely over the next year.
Meanwhile it goes without saying that fellow Australian Olivier Tweddell, currently close to the back of the Weymouth fleet will need better results if he is going to give Lilley a hard run for the Rio Finn class selection.
