Volvo Ocean Race – 12 filles vers une victoire

A Lorient, à moins de 24 heures de l’arrivée de la 8ème étape de la Volvo Ocean Race, la possibilité d’une victoire féminine n’a jamais été aussi forte. Alors que la flotte évolue au large de Royan, Sam Davies et Team SCA – seul bateau 100 % féminin - ne cèdent pas un pouce des 10 milles d’avance acquis de haute lutte juste après le départ de Lisbonne. Au-delà de cette avance, le bateau magenta est positionné au Nord en situation de contrôle par rapport à la flotte. A moins d’un problème matériel - toujours possible en course au large - on voit mal qui est en mesure de voler la vedette au bateau magenta tant les écarts de vitesse sont insignifiants.

S’il est bien sûr trop tôt pour parler de victoire, la domination féminine sur cette étape est indéniable et ne laisse personne indifférent. Depuis le départ d’Alicante, il y a 8 mois, les filles du Team SCA ont souvent brillé sur les courses In-Port Race (2 victoires) mais ont fermé la marche de manière quasi-systématique sur les étapes. C’est donc un véritable retournement de situation que Sam Davies et ses équipières réalisent en conservant la tête de la flotte depuis maintenant 80 heures. Elles sont en train d’écrire une de ces victoires qui restent dans l’histoire de la course. Avant elles, il y a eu 4 équipages féminins sur la Volvo Ocean Race et seul « Maiden » avait remporté des étapes mais il existait à l’époque plusieurs classements différents.

Les concurrents – et concurrentes – de la Volvo Ocean Race sont attendus demain, aux premières heures du jour, à Lorient entre 6h et 8h (heure locale) pour Team SCA.
