Volvo Ocean Race - Xabi volverá a ser patrón del MAPFRE en la etapa 8

Volvo Ocean Race - Xabi Fernández vuelve la caña el MAPFRE como patrón para la etapa 8 que unirá Lisboa con Lorient, así lo han confirmado desde el equipo rojo que ha desvelado la tripulación completa que cubrirá esta etapa de 647 millas.

Xabi Fernández vuelve a ser confirmado como patrón del MAPFRE de cara a la proxima etapa 8 que unirá Lisboa con Lorient (Francia) y que constará de un total de 647 millas náuticas. El equipo español, además, ha desvelado los nombres de los tripulantes que subirán a bordo del MAPFRE para encarar esta nueva etapa que dará inicio el domingo 7 de junio.

Como en otras ocasiones, Xabi ocupará el puesto de patrón en el lugar de su compañero de equipo y medallista olímpico Iker Martinez, que está inmerso en los preparativos de cara a la competición clasificatoria de la clase Nacra 17 para los Juegos Olímpicos de Río 2016.

Con esta será la cuarta vez que Xabi Fernández ocupe el puesto de Iker en el timón del barco español; y es que el vasco ha llevado la caña del MAPFRE en las etapas 3, 4 y 6 de esta edición de la Volvo Ocean Race.

De hecho, el MAPFRE resultó vencedor bajo su mando en la durísima etapa que unía los puertos de Sanya (en China) y Auckland (en Nueva Zelanda).

Cabe destacar que aunque no estará a bordo del MAPFRE durante la proxima etapa 8, Iker ha confirmado que navegará en la regata costera de Lisboa que tendrá lugar este sábado 6 de junio a las 15.00 hora española.

Quien sí vuelve a subir a bordo del MAPFRE es Rafa Trujillo. El andaluz será crucial en los puestos de caña y trimmer de cara a la lucha por el podio final en Suecia.
