Con motivo del Día Internacional de la Infancia, Luís Figo ha visitado hoy el Race Village de la Volvo Ocean Race en Lisboa en nombre de su fundación benéfica, que trabaja para hacer llegar el deporte a los más jóvenes. Lo ha hecho acompañado de 100 niños lisboetas, y como en 2011, el portugués ha vuelto a navegar con Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing.

“Es un placer unirme a un evento global como éste, y tener la oportunidad de permitir a niños de toda Lisboa disfrutar de una jornada con actividades relacionadas con el mar. Hoy es el Día Internacional de la Infancia, y junto a mi fundación siempre intentamos celebrarlo de manera especial. Este año hemos tenido la posibilidad de unirnos a la Volvo Ocean Race, donde los niños han participado en todo tipo de actividades. Una de las áreas en las que operamos es la integración social, así que el evento de hoy me hace muy feliz. El deporte puede transmitir valores muy importantes, que acompañarán a los niños durante toda su vida'.

El futbolista, fundador de www.fundacaoluisfigo.pt, se ha reunido con el patrón de Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, el campeón olímpico Ian Walker. 'Sigo la regata a través de los medios, y sé que Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing lo está haciendo bien. De pequeño siempre viví junto al mar, y me encanta. No soy un gran navegante, pero me gusta la vela', explicaba el Balón de Oro en 2000.
