Fremantle to Bali - New start date officially announced

by Marina Valmadre on 17 May 2015
Second Race - 2015 Wonderful Indonesia Fremantle to Bali Bernie Kaaks
The official start date for the twenty boats participating in 2015 Wonderful Indonesia Fremantle to Bali is now 10 am WST time on Monday May 18 for the racing fleet and ten minutes later for the rally fleet.

This follows a forty-eight-hour delay due to serious weather conditions including gale force winds and the club’s commitment to safety.

With safety of paramount importance in the 1440 nm blue water race which sees the yachts head north up the coast of Western Australia before leaving the Australian coast at North West Cape to head across to Bali the postponement of the race and rally was taken following close consultation with the Bureau of Meteorology and event weather advisors.

Event Chair Bob Kucera said that everyone involved in offshore racing was very mindful of safety these days and the postponements had been to ensure the safety of sailors and so that families could be free of worry.

He anticipated that while there would still be confused seas after the start the sea and swells would be going with the boats rather than boats going into the weather with yachts likely to be hoisting a spinnaker soon after the start.

Following the start of the race, the progress of yachts can be viewed via the Yellow Brick Trackers carried on all of the boats and updated every 15 to twenty minutes, making the race riveting here.
