Volvo Ocean Race - Dans les eaux américaines de Newport, l’équipage espagnol MAPFRE a ouvert son compteur à victoires lors du Newport Team Vestas Wind In-Port Race. Iker Martinez et ses hommes ont réalisé un sans faute devant l’importante foule réunie sur les rives pour suivre le spectacle. Dès le départ, le bateau rouge a pris l’avantage et n’a fait que creuser son avance tout au long de ce parcours disputé dans un vent d’une quinzaine de nœuds. Team Alvimedica prend la deuxième place avec près d’une minute de retard et se fait acclamer par le public américain. C’est Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing qui complète le podium. Grâce à cette jolie performance, le bateau émirati prend la première place du classement général des In-Port et domine la Volvo Ocean Race, aussi bien pour le large que sur les parcours en baie.



Déception en revanche du côté de Dongfeng Race Team. L’équipage franco-chinois, vainqueur de l’étape précédente, réalise le meilleur départ mais perd du terrain dès la deuxième remontée au près. Caudrelier et ses hommes terminent dernier de ce Team Vestas Wind In-Port Race mais ils conservent la quatrième place du classement général.



Les concurrents sont maintenant rentrés au port et se concentrent déjà sur l’étape numéro 7. Dans moins de 24 heures, ils feront tous cap vers l’Est pour être les premiers à poser le pied en Europe.
