Team Alvimedica's Will Oxley celebrates a big birthday at sea

by Sail-World.com NZL on 30 Apr 2015
Navigator Will Oxley looks at the clouds from the dry comfort of the hatch on Leg 6 - and maybe keeping an eye out for approaching cruise ships Amory Ross / Team Alvimedica
The crew of Team Alvimedica 'help' navigator Will Oxley celebrate his 50th birthday at sea during Leg 6 of the Volvo Ocean Race.

Nicknamed 'Dad' aboard the boat, Will is the senior figure amongst the crew that has the lowest average age on any of the seven crews competing in the 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race.

Just to prove that everyone grows old, but no-one has to grow up - the sailing watch on Team Alvimedica decide to see if they can catch Will out with a mid-ocean radio call from an approaching cruise liners - that Will can't see on his AIS.

Stalked by the SS Geriatric - whatever next?

And a Happy, if belated Birthday, Will, from all of us at Sail-World.com
