Volvo Ocean Race – Intense racing ahead to shoreline

by Volvo Ocean Race on 26 Apr 2015
Onboard Dongfeng Race Team – There's a little captain in each of us - Leg six to Newport – Volvo Ocean Race 2015 Sam Greenfield / Volvo Ocean Race
In our latest report yesterday at 1900 UTC, Team Alvimedica was still in the lead by only 2.5nm. During the night, we have seen the black and orange boat losing positions on every report.

The east pack lead by Dongfeng Race Team has been in slightly more pressure, a constant breeze of 10-12 knots while Team Alvimedica 45nm west has been in 9-10 knots of breeze.

Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing separated from leading pack 25nm to the west has been also on less breeze (8-10 knots.)

Ahead of the fleet, the Chinese-French team has been making just one mile of gain since 1900 UTC. Caudrelier’s crew has proven before to perform very well on these conditions and I wouldn’t be surprised if they continue making gradual gains.

The leaders are 180nm southeast of Recife. We will see how close they get to the shoreline.
