As estratégias da sexta etapa da Volvo Ocean Race começam a ser lançadas antes mesmo da chegada a linha do Equador. Na costa brasileira - mais precisamente na linha de Porto Seguro, na Bahia - os barcos que sobem para Newport estão bem próximos, mas um deles resolveu ficar mais perto da praia: o Team Alvimedica. Anfitriões da próxima parada de Newport, os turcos/norte-americanos lideram a perna. Na última parcial da manhã desta sexta-feira (24), a equipe tem vantagem mínima para Dongfeng, Team SCA, MAPFRE, Team Brunel e Abu Dhabi.

'O progresso é lento e a regata imprevisível com ventos inconstantes. Todo mundo está tentando chegar ao norte, mas nos falta o vento para fazê-lo bem, por isso estamos caçando qualquer direção que possa nos levar pra casa. A tripulação está exausta de tanto trabalho a bordo', disse Amory Ross, repórter a bordo do Team Alvimedica.



Depois de deixar a Itajaí sem vento no domingo (19), os líderes do campeonato, os árabes do Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, estão adotando uma estratégia conservadora. 'Vamos ficar no meio do pelotão e seguir a flotilha', disse Ian Walker antes de zarpar do Brasil. O seu time lidera com oito pontos de vantagem.



Apesar das tentativas de escapada, ninguém pode ser dar ao luxo de dizer que está tranquilo, pois a diferença do primeiro ao sexto é menor do que vinte quilômetros. As projeções mais recentes são de que a flotilha cruze a linha de chegada entre 6 e 8 de maio após quase 20 dias de navegação.
