Volunteers the fabric of Airlie Beach Race Week

Akin to the 25 regattas that went before it, Airlie Beach Race Week 2015 will rely on its volunteer force to keep heart and soul together, both on and off the water.

From registration to on-water race support, umpires, judges, regatta onshore support and co-ordinating to media assistance, bar help, delivering lunches, greeting competitors and more, volunteers really are the fabric of the annual event coming up for its 26th edition in August.

“Volunteers affect the running of every part of Airlie Beach Race Week, both on and off the water,” Whitsunday Sailing Club Commodore, Bernie van’t Hof said. “We could not run this event without them, they are the unsung heroes and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you,” he ended.

Because they undertake their jobs in a professional manner, volunteers at the ‘Tropical Shirt’ regatta often go unnoticed, but they are appreciated by the event organisers and by the sailors themselves. Organisers will supply each volunteer with a distinctive regatta shirt and lunch will be provided daily.

The 26th edition of Airlie Beach Race Week, to be held from 7-14 August, will again require volunteers to help out in all the arears mentioned above. Whether you are a local or a visitor, we are interested in hearing from you. It is a good opportunity to see old friends, make new ones and sharpen your skills in a friendly and healthy environment.

Those interested in volunteering, or requiring more information, can contact sailing@whitsundaysailingclub.com.au or Tel (07) 4946 6138.
