Vendée Globe 2016 - Fabrice Amedeo off to a good start

by Vendée Globe on 17 Apr 2015 The journalist-sailor Fabrice Amedeo has just acquired the Gaes monohull (Jean Le Cam’s former Synerciel) aboard which he intends to compete in the 2016 Vendée Globe. Thanks to the support of the Newrest company, one of the world’s leading catering firms, the journalist from the Paris region is now busy looking for additional partners and hopes to compete in the Transat Jacques Vabre next autumn.

After finishing in ninth place in the last Route du Rhum on his Class 40, Fabrice Amedeo had only one thing on his mind. He wanted to take part in the 2016 Vendée Globe. As soon as he completed his solo transatlantic crossing, the journalist, who works for the Figaro newspaper began looking for partners to see his dream come true, as he wishes to compete in the non-stop solo round the world race. Very early on, the Newrest company was won over by the skipper’s performance and decided to join him in this adventure. This support has enabled Fabrice Amedeo to buy the 60-foot IMOCA, “Gaes Centro Auditivos,” which was raced in the 2012 Vendée Globe by Jean Le Cam in the colours of Synerciel. This Farr designed boat from 2007 is, in fact the former Gitana 80 aboard which Loïck Peyron took part in the 2008 Vendée Globe.

Sailor and offshore reporter

Maintaining the same spirit in his Offshore Reporters project over the past four years, Fabrice Amedeo will be one of the rather unusual skippers lining up at the start of the round the world race in 2016. The amateur sailor originally from Segré near Angers, now works as a journalist for the Figaro newspaper and is aiming to do well in the round the world race, while relating the story of what is going on in the Vendée Globe from the inside and sharing his experience with the general public.

Fabrice Amedeo: “I’m close now to seeing the dream of competing in the Vendée Globe come true. I currently split my life between my work as a journalist for the Figaro and my search for sponsors. I’m particularly pleased to have the renewed support of Newrest with whom I had a great experience in the Route du Rhum. My main goal for the moment is to find the rest of my budget. I’m looking for a joint partner and additional partners to join me. My project is now well advanced in every area, as I have a boat, sponsors, an unusual angle, an editorial position, a top class shore team and a huge desire to share these new adventures with the general public.”
