Volvo Ocean Race - Tous les concurrents sont à quai au Brésil depuis quatre jours. Tous, sauf un. Dongfeng Race Team est en effet toujours en convoyage et n’a parcouru – en six jours - que la moitié du chemin séparant Ushuaia d’Itajaí.

Au sein de l’équipe, on calcule que le bateau arrivera – dans le meilleur des cas – lundi prochain – le 13 avril - à destination. L’équipage garde par ailleurs un œil inquiet sur la jauge de gazole qui descend à la vitesse grand V. Rien ne dit à l’heure actuelle qu’ils auront suffisamment de combustible pour faire tourner le moteur jusqu’à l’arrivée.

Le 13 avril, c’est aussi l’arrivée prévue du nouveau mât. L’espar a été transporté de Dubaï vers Amsterdam en avion cargo et va bientôt s’envoler vers Sao Paulo. Il sera ensuite chargé sur un semi-remorque et acheminé par la route jusqu’à Itajaí. Là aussi, le Dongfeng Race Team n’a pas d’autre choix que de croiser les doigts. La principale crainte de l’équipe est en effet que le camion ne soit pas autorisé à rouler le week end ! Une telle interdiction retarderait de deux jours l’arrivée du mât.

Réunir le bateau et son nouveau mât constituent déjà un sacré challenge mais, comme l’annonce l’équipe : « c’est à ce moment là que débute la course contre la montre ». En 5 jours, peut-être moins, il faudra remettre le bateau en état et surtout gréer le mât pour être au départ de l’In-port le 18 avril. En temps normal, des travaux de ce type prennent une dizaine de jours.

Sans dramatiser la situation, Dongfeng Race Team est donc loin d’être en avance sur son planning. A l’heure actuelle, personne ne se risque à affirmer que le bateau pourra être au départ le 19 avril. Bruno Dubois, le directeur du projet ne tourne pas autour du pot : « Si on n’y arrive pas ? Ce sera la fin du projet tel qu’on le connait ». La semaine à venir s’annonce cruciale.
