Trofeo Princesa Sofía – 2014 ISAF Worlds silver medallist in Santander and world number one in the Finn class, Ivan Kljakovic Gaspic (CRO) is sailing in Palma with a clear objective: select for the Olympic Games and win a medal in Rio.

'My focus is set on Rio and I want to win an Olympic medal there. I have already competed in two Olympic Games before and I hope the third attempt will be the right one.' says Gaspic. The Croat has some other goals along the way with the Finn European Championship in Split 'at home' in May and the class worlds in Takapuna, New-Zealand at the end of the year.

In any case, even if Ivan's short term goal is on the Games, he is not excluding any other sailing projects.

The Trofeo Sofia Iberostar is the first main event for Ivan after a very intense winter training period. 'I would really like to be on the podium in Palma, but the outcome of such event is hard to control.' explains Gaspic when considering the tricky sailing conditions experienced on the first few days. 'In my view it is better to do less races and insure a good quality than to let the wind decide the outcome of the event.'

About kiteboarding, included for the first time in Palma, 'This is part of the future of sailing. I think we will see more of it in the next few years, it is very tactical and requires a good physical form: At the same it is very visual and attractive for the public.'
