Recreational anglers fishing the Goulburn River at Toolamba, south of Shepparton, now have better access thanks to an upgraded boat ramp and improved vehicle tracks.
Fisheries Victoria acting Executive Director, Mark Edwards, said the Toolamba Fishing Club and Parks Victoria obtained a $52,000 State Government grant to undertake the boat ramp upgrade and improve the quality of the track leading to it.
“Ensuring safe and easy access to productive inland fisheries like the Goulburn River is important to local anglers and to regional businesses that depend on fishing-related tourism,” Mr Edwards said.
“The single lane earthen ramp has been graded, re-gravelled and levelled.
“A 500 metre length of vehicle track has also been graded and resurfaced to enable all-weather access for small trailer-boats.
“The boat ramp is heavily used during the Toolamba Fishing Classic in April each year, which attracts keen anglers from across central and northern Victoria.
“The Goulburn River is popular with anglers chasing Murray cod and golden perch, both of which are stocked each year by Fisheries Victoria using recreational fishing licence fees and funding from the State Government.
“The Goulburn River is also a productive fishery for Murray spiny freshwater crayfish, which can be targeted during the open season months of June, July and August.”
