Vaness Dudley and Jenny Danks - manly yacht club Helly Hanse Womens Challenge 2015 Max Dzura
Manly Yacht Club Helly Hansen Women’s Challenge kicked off on Saturday March 21st with the junior girls showing us how it’s done. The swell and wind conditions stretched them but they couldn’t keep the smiles off their faces. The classes sailed were Pittwater Juniors, Optimists, Manly Juniors and Flying 11s. The Access Dinghies elected not to sail as the conditions were not suitable.
Optimists overall results after two races:
First - Emily Priddle
Second - Evie Saunders
Third - Isabella Reid
Juniors overall results after three races
First - Tilly Martyn
Second - Garance Ihuel
Third - Greta Cook
The PJ Girls sailed in a larger fleet of 10 boats with boys as it formed part of the PJ State Championships.
Flying Eleven Skipper Ellen Mitchell and crew Romy Saunders; and Manly Juniors skipper Hayley Dalton and crew, Georgia Becker were awarded encouragement prizes.
Not So Junior
The not so junior consisted of a tight fleet of Lasers with Yachtswoman of the Year, and Laser Grand Master 2013, Vanessa Dudley, on Laser Lambchop coping more than well in the chop and swell around the Manly Cove area. The lasers were raced as a handicap race and Vanessa was scratch boat. Jenny Danks took out First place much to her surprise, as she admitted” I haven’t sailed a laser for a few years!”. Second place was Veronique Morgan-Smith And third Diane Sissingh.
The combination of Yachts and centreboards entries over the two days racing amounted to 54 boats. An impressive 20th year event. Congratulations all competitors young and old.
