Time de brasileiro na Volvo Ocean Race toma estratégia ousada

Em último lugar na quinta etapa da Volvo Ocean Race, o MAPFRE, do brasileiro André 'Bochecha' Fonseca, enfrenta um momento-chave no caminho para Itajaí. Com um sistema de baixa pressão pela frente, a equipe espanhola precisa decidir se opta pela rota mais ao Norte ou ao Sul. O objetivo é entrar no chamado Roaring 40s do Oceano Antártico - Vendavais da Latitude 40 - em uma melhor situação. São esperados ventos de 45 nós até a chegada ao Cabo Horn. A perna é liderada provisoriamente pelo holandês Team Brunel, seguido pelo Team Alvimedica e Abu Dhabi.



Em uma ligação telefônica neste sábado (21), André 'Bochecha' Fonseca Fonseca comentou que 'está tudo muito complicado nesta etapa, com muitas mudanças de velas e muitas rajadas'.



Como medida de precaução antes dos Roaring 40s, o MAPFRE decidiu reforçar a proa do barco depois de barulhos estranhos por lá. 'Os primeiros dias foram difíceis e agora ouvimos um barulho que vem dessa área', comentou o comandante Iker Martínez. 'Tivemos uma vez nessa regata um problema na proa. Preferimos ser cautelosos e evitar problemas, por isso temos fortalecido essa área nas últimas horas'.

A quinta etapa da Volvo Ocean Race é disputada entre a Nova Zelândia e o Brasil. A parada de Itajaí, em Santa Catarina, será aberta ao público em 4 de abril.
