2015 Squirrel Bank Regatta - Overall report

Lumpy seas made for wild rides Tami Rae
Short close chop, hobby-horsing to weather and donning layers of foul weather gear was the order of the day at Del Rey Yacht Club's annual Squirrel Bank Regatta.
Fortunately the expected rains never materialized but the seas were running courtesy of a low-pressure trough. Large puffy Cumulus and Cirrus clouds surrounded the race course.
The February 28 noon event featured 14 knot winds dead on the nose for the weather leg of the windward-leeward 20.5 mile course and its 44 competing vessels. Winds diminished somewhat after most rounded the weather mark and made for a somewhat longer race, with the last finisher coming in at 18:26.
Porkapotamus, Dave Licata's trimaran was first to finish at 15:21 followed by a pair of Farr40's: Michael Shlens' Blade II and Gary Ezor's Coquille. Thirty nine boats finished with most non-finishers suffering sea-way related gear failures.
Unlike previous events, this one saw plenty of wind and very atypical Southern California sailing conditions.
