San Fernando Race Charity Dinner - loud shirts, please!

San Fernando Race 2013 - starting in front of the RHKYC clubhouse, Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong RHKYC/Guy Nowell http://www.guynowell.com/
The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club has been racing to San Fernando since 1977. Sailors enjoy 'going south' away from miserable, grey Hong Kong weather, with ideal sailing conditions under a full moon leading them to the shores of northern Luzon.

'Fun in the Sun' has always been the theme of the race. Since 1987 the race has supported the Home Of Loving Faithfulness, a home for underprivileged children. In recent years the event charity has supported 32 children who would otherwise not have a home to live in and would be, quite literally, on the street. Funds raised by the event provide everything from a roof over their heads to clothing and educational requirements.

On 13 March RHKYC will once again host a Charity Dinner in its famous Compass Room, and sailors will join in the fun to raise funds for the next two years’ running costs. The evening is supported by the big band, Stray Katz, who very generously play until the small hours. And of course there will be the authoritative and persuasive voice of Fred Kinmonth as auctioneer.

The operations of the Home cannot rely solely on one evening held at the RHKYC and this year the Foundation is hoping for a greater involvement from the yachting community at large. We are lucky in that the Dollar tends to reach further in the Philippines than many other places US$100,000 is still needed to run the home for the next two years. Any donations from other sources will therefore be gratefully received. Aside from this, anyone with businesses in the Philippines willing to assist in graduate training programmes for those from the home, or able to provide equipment such as computers, please contact Colin Dawson. Putting something back into the community is something close to the hearts of all involved with the San Fernando Race, and we look forward to our involvement with the Home for many years to come.

The San Fernando Race Foundation is a registered charity in Hong Kong and is financially administered in Hong Kong. Any further information can be obtained from Colin Dawson at colindawson@tgg.com.hk.
