Lifeskills National Careers Week - RYA to showcase marine careers

by Emma Slater on 27 Feb 2015 To coincide with Lifeskills National Careers Week, being held from 2nd to 6th March, throughout the week the RYA will be showcasing just some of the great jobs available within the marine sector and running daily features about courses, diplomas and routes to becoming an instructor in various boating disciplines.

The recreational boating industry has grown tremendously, creating a wide range of opportunities for those of want to work on the water, whether it’s as a dinghy instructor, sail maker or lock keeper.

During the week on the RYA website and RYA Facebook page there will be daily features focusing on getting yourself trained for your dream job. We kick off the week chatting with students and teachers at the London Nautical School about the Level 3 BTEC Sailing and Watersports course. Then throughout the week we hear about the UKSA’s Watersports Instructor Training diploma and find out what it takes to become a, windsurf, inland or powerboat instructor.

Alongside the daily features we will also chatting to a whole host of people working in the marine industry in our ‘Day in Life’ profiles. Each day we will be posting two different jobs including; marine journalist and marine photographer, professional sailor, dinghy instructor, marine environmentalist, rigger and many more. The list is by no means exhaustive as there so many amazing jobs within the marine industry but it will give you a taste of what’s out there.
