Southport Yacht Club set to sail for ‘The Yalumba Wines Great Race’

The Great Race, is one of the longest Off the Beach Catamaran and Dinghy races in Australia. A challenging marathon race, full of entertainment and endurance.

Scheduled for Saturday 7th February, the race starts from Southport Yacht Club’s Sailing Academy based at Hollywell on the Gold Coast, and finishes at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in Brisbane, sailing 37 nautical miles through the Broadwater channels and crossing Moreton Bay to the finish.

The first race was held in 2005 with the event building in numbers annually, proving to be a true test of boat and sailor. This is the eleventh (11th) time The Great Race has been staged, with prizes for fasted elapsed time, first, second and third.

• Division 2: Joel Turner and Lewis Brake, Why Seas – 49er
• Division 3: Kelvin Holdt, Comfortably Numb – Hobie 16
• Division 4: Chris Noyes and Joe Sabin, 3 Jugs – F18
• Division 5: David Grant and Carole Denning, Windrider – Windrider 17

The chosen date for the race has favourable tidal conditions for much of the day.
