Recreational anglers now have better access to rock fishing spots at Boggaley Creek, near Lorne, thanks to new steps that descend from the Great Ocean Road.
Fisheries Victoria Acting Executive Director Mark Edwards said the steps were an improvement on the steep and rocky track that was widely used by anglers at this popular fishing location, which is about 13 kilometres from Lorne.
'The steps at Boggaley Creek make it much safer for anglers who fish from rocky platforms along this section of coast for species such as snapper, garfish, mullet and whiting,' Mr Edwards said.
'The Association of Geelong and District Angling Clubs are to be congratulated on delivering another tangible fishing improvement.
'The Association has a strong record of obtaining funds from a variety of sources to undertake projects that make wetting a line easier and more enjoyable for local and visiting anglers.
'The steps were funded by a grant of $37,000 from the Recreational Fishing Grants Program, which reinvests fees collected from the sale of fishing licences into projects that improve angling.'
The Recreational Fishing Grants Program is currently open to submissions for ‘large grant’ projects valued between $5,001 and $100,000.
