Williams and Precey have close win in Hartley 16 Nationals at Napier

Napier turned on some lovely sailing conditions for the Independent Liquor sponsored 49th Hartley 16 Nationals. With five boats able to win the regatta going into the last day.

It was defending champion Shaking Laundry sailed by Robin Williams and Peter Precey from the Manukau Yacht Club who won a very close regatta by one point from the New Plymouth crew in Simply Red Jason Holdt and Todd Birrell, third place went to another New Plymouth boat Panache sailed by Wayne Holdt and Lars Binsbergen.

This was the first nationals for some time to include Wellington boats with three making the trip, which will hopefully help the fleet build up in Wellington again. The family trophy went to Mac the Knife sailed by Annemarie and Bob Waugh, with Snowflake Denny Holdt and Kevin Rimmington winning the handicap trophy.

Again the camaraderie of the Hartley sailors continued with the sheriff session after each day's racing.

Well done to the Napier team for organising a great regatta both on and off the water.

Full results can be found on the class website.

The 50th Nationals will be hosted by the New Plymouth Yacht Club in January 2016, so dig your boat out for this one it should be a beauty.
