Warren Nethercote, natif d'Ottawa et membre du Club de voile de St. Margarets et du Club de yachting du bassin de Bedford, a consacré une grande partie de sa vie à faire du bénévolat en tant qu'adepte et grand amateur de voile. À titre de dirigeant, d'officiel, de préposé au déplacement des marques (balises) d'un parcours ou même de gérant de bar, Warren est un véritable touche-à-tout. Il a quitté le Canada à un jeune âge pour poursuivre des études en architecture navale au R.-U., puis il est revenu au Canada se joindre à Recherche et développement pour la défense Canada à Halifax. Il a commencé à faire de la voile sur dériveur, puis a adopté le système PHRF et le monotype. En hiver, Warren se consacre à la voile de catégorie DN tandis qu'en été, il participe à des épreuves de Soling. Warren est président du Nova Ice Yacht Club et, depuis novembre 2014, il agit à titre de contre-commodore du Canada au sein de l'Association internationale de course de voilier sur glace.

En 2012, Warren a été nommé Officiel de l'année lors de la remise des Prix Ricoh de Sports Nouvelle-Écosse, un honneur remis à celui que l'on considère comme étant le meilleur officiel, tous sports confondus sous la gouverne de Sports Nouvelle-Écosse.

Frank Denis, directeur de Voile Nouvelle-Écosse, fait remarquer que ' Warren a consacré énormément de temps 'de très grande qualité' à ce sport au fil des ans. Du temps qui nous a permis non seulement d'organiser des épreuves nationales et internationales, mais aussi de contribuer de façon significative au développement de la relève, des jeunes adeptes de la voile '.

Warren Nethercote, bénévole de l'année 2014 de Voile Canada- présenter par Automobiles du Volvo Canada, sera présent, accompagné de son épouse, Maria Kuttner, afin d'accepter son prix lors de la remise des Prix Rolex du navigateur de l'année 2014 de Voile Canada à ' The Carlu;', à Toronto, le 6 février 2015.
