Waiting for wind - 2015 North Island Starling Championships, New Plymouth Jason Holdt
Day 1 of the Starling North Islands was a picture perfect day, in New Plymouth.
After a slow start with an hour delay waiting for the wind to come in, sailors were pushing the start line which resulted in a black flag start for all three races. The first two races averaged about 8-10knots with the third race averaging 12-15knots all in flat seas.
Race one began with two general recalls, starting the third start with a black flag. This race was taken out by Julia Ebert who had a good lead over Sam Barnett in second and Josh Armit in third.
Race two consisted of similar conditions to race one with Jonathon Barnett taking the win followed by Josh Armit in second and Julia Ebert in third.
Conditions changed for race three to be 12-15knots with slightly more chop. This race was won by Josh Armit, second was Charlotte Porter and third went to Hamish Clark.
Three more races are schedule for tomorrow with similar weather conditions forecast.
