As the Bird Island Race fleet cleared North Head shortly after 11am this morning, Jim Clark's 100 foot race record trophy hunter Comanche was to be seen raising sails off Bradley's Head in preparation for her first sail on Australian waters.
In a light nor'easter Comanche tacked down harbour to South Head, did one quick circuit on the eastern shore close to Lady Jane Beach, then turned upwind again and slid out of the Heads on a fetch in very calm waters, before squaring off and slowly sailing south - without a spinnaker - whilst other preparations were presumably in hand.
Crosbie and Dale Lorimer were on North Head to witness Comanche's Australian christening and captured these images.
