Travelers Series 14-15 starts off at the Round Taal Volcano Regatta

by Rapunzel Garcia on 2 Dec 2014
AboitizPower Cleanergy Travelers Series: RTV Rapunzel Garcia
Phinsaf and AboitizPower Cleanergy has officially launched this season’s Traveler Series through the Round Taal Volcano Regatta organized by the Taal Lake Yacht Club on 22nd to 23rd of November.

Now on its 17th year, the RTV proved to still be a much-awaited favorite, with Hobie 16s, Bravos, homebuilts and other boats in the roster. This year’s RTV also had two firsts – the first Noel Lim Memorial Race, held in honor of Noel Lim who conceptualized the RTV and donated its first trophy; and the first time that the Philippine Topcat fleet (all the way from Romblon!) joined the event.

Racing went off with not much action on the first day due to light winds, and the Governor’s Cup was reformatted to round an island instead of the Taal Volcano. The second day made up for it though, with 15 knots of wind (gusting 20) to finally propel the fleet all the way around the volcano.

The RTV is also much-awaited not only for the fantastic racing, but also because of its socials, which bring sailors and their families and friends together. There was a short awarding ceremony on Saturday night at Club Balai Isabel, the top resort in Taal Lake, followed by an after-party cocktails back at TLYC, complete with an impromptu bag-pipe performance from sailor Roy Espiritu. The sausage barbecue lunch the following day, sponsored by Broadwater Marine, also proved to be a hit.

Prizes and freebies from Potato Corner, Regatta clothing, and TLYC made sure each sailor didn’t go empty-handed, no matter their rank in the scoresheets. A complete list of the standings and winners is posted below, led by Regatta over-all winner for the Hobie16 Class, Dennis Cruz.

The AboitizPower Cleanergy Travelers Series is a six-regatta series that gives local sailors a chance to sail in different part of the Philippines. It is now on its fifth year, and AboitizPower has always been its major supporter. The next event is the Tali Regatta, scheduled for the 29th to 30th of November. The event series is sponsored by Regatta (www.regatta.com.ph).
