Given the mid morning start to their short passage race to Lion Island and back for the first race of the Short Ocean Racing Series, things were looking a little quiet for the IRC and PHS divisions.
But PRO Denis Thompson had barely raised the AP flag than the expected nor'easter started to build across the harbour and the fleet got away minutes later.
Daryl Hodgkinson's Victoire chose the western side of the harbour and led the fleet out through The Heads in a very pleasant 8-10 knots of breeze. Michael Cranitch's Triton was next out of the harbour, followed by Paul Clitheroe's Balance (recovering rapidly from a late start), Bob Cox's Nine Dragons and Warwick Sherman's Occasional Coarse Language II.
By lunchtime the sea breeze was in full swing, giving the Seven Islands fleet a fast pursuit race from Middle Harbour up to Cockatoo Island and back in a warm and sunny 15-20 knot nor'easter.
Crosbie and Dale Lorimer enjoyed the beautiful conditions on the water, capturing these images.
