2014 NSW State Sabot Champion - Henry Larkings - 2014 NSW Beneteau Vicsail State Sabot Sailing Championships Bill Vickery
The second round of the NSW Beneteau Vicsail Sabot State Championships was sailed at Toronto Amateur Sailing Club over the 15th and 16th November. 56 Sabots took to the waters of Lake Macquarie under the control of PRO Tony Outteridge who on the Saturday got four races away in ideal 15 knots of breeze which built to 20 knots later in the afternoon. Henry Larkings who came into the second round second behind Jed Fatches scored a first and a second in the 1 Ups.

Sunday Outteridge was keen to get the first race away on time in anticipation of strong wind warning forecast for midafternoon. The first race of the day saw James Robson duel it out with Miles Davey with Robson getting his first chequered flag in the regatta. In the 2ups Hartnett and Roberts scored a first adding to their impressive score card of five bullets. The eighth race was abandoned when the 35 knot westerly hit finishing the series with seven races and one discard.

1 Ups – Scratch

• Henry Larkings – Lane Cove first overall
• Jed Fatches – Wangi second
• Thomas Steenson – Belmont third

2 Ups – Scratch

• Caitlin Hartnett and Tanya Roberts – Drummoyne – first
• Kai Johnston and Akito Koike – Narrabeen – second
• Emily Fatches and Luca Dawson – Wangi – third

The championships gathered great support from Gill, Harken, Beneteau, Vicsail, Kinder Chocolates, RW Bashams, Sydney Sailmakers, Michael Bartley Shipwrights and Mink Pink Clothing.

Overall the success of the regatta was outstanding with lots of new crews contesting their first state championships. Next is the National Sabot Sailing Championships to be held in Townsville December 28th – January 4th.
