Crowds flocked to Marina Lanzarote for the grand opening on Saturday October 18, where local and regional public officials led by Paulino Rivero, President of the Canarian Government lauded Mr. Jose Calero’s most impressive achievement to date.

Recalling Lanzarote’s famous artist Cesar Manrique, Mr Rivero described the tremendous importance of individuals who possessed the singular capacity to advance tourist development based around the island’s natural resources in such an effective, respectful and exceptional manner.

The Caleros’ courage, vision and resolute determination in difficult times had successfully brought about the capital city’s most important investment project, a much needed facelift for Arrecife’s historic port, implying significant employment opportunities for the island.

The new shipyard with its 820 tonne lift provides an essential service for the both the local tourist and commercial fleets and an easy facility for superyachts needing technical assistance.

Shops and restaurants, many of them local companies, opened their doors to greet an enthusiastic public with numerous tempting offers. Over the next couple of months, many more are set to join them, providing a superb range of different types of cuisine including well-known island favourites such as Lilium and Maxi Vidal’s (Amura) new restaurant, Local 24.

The new 400-berth marina was packed with boats on the day of the opening, where this secure and well placed location has proved extraordinarily popular with visiting yachts, amongst those many liveaboards who have patiently and loyally stood by to watch the two year creation of the project.

The marina buzzed with well-wishers parading along the 500m-long waterfront and musical festivities continued long into the night.

Marina Lanzarote is set now to receive some major sailing events over the next twelve months starting with the Atlantic Odyssey in November with its popular cruising-week seminars, the spectacular Panerai Transat Classique in January and the Mini Transat arriving late September, 2015.
