Eric Monnin Pret A En Decoudre Face A L’elite Mondiale

Huit équipages comptant parmi les meilleurs spécialistes mondiaux de la discipline du match-race s’apprêtent à en découdre dès demain au large de la Société Nautique de Genève dans le cadre du TeamWork Geneva Match Race, une épreuve de Grade 2 comptant pour le classement mondial annuel de la discipline.

Organisé par le Cercle de la Voile de la SNG en collaboration avec l’entreprise TeamWork, cette épreuve de Grade 2 opposera trois équipages suisses - Monnin, Mettraux, Muller - à certains des ténors internationaux de la discipline, menés par l’australien David Gilmour, le finlandais Antti Luhta ou le français Arthur Herreman.

Actuellement onzième de la hiérarchie mondiale et multiple vainqueur du Geneva match race, Eric Monnin et son team Okalys Corum font figure de favoris. 'A mon avis, l’homme à battre sera David Gilmour, même s’il ne connait ni le site ni les bateaux utilisés,' prédit Monnin. 'Mais nous devrons aussi nous méfier du français Herreman. C’est le petit jeune qui monte, il est très talentueux!'

Ces derniers mois, Monnin et ses coéquipiers ont notamment remporté la prestigieuse Knickerbrockers Cup à New York; ils se sont également classés vice-champions d’Europe en Pologne et champions de Suisse à Zurich.


Monnin naviguera exceptionnellement ce week-end en compagnie des spécialistes de la voile olympique Yannick Brauchli et Romuald Hausser, 16èmes des Jeux Olympiques de Londres 2012. 'Je me réjouis de naviguer en leur compagnie,' déclare Monnin. 'Nous avons déjà disputé un match race ensemble et l’entente est excellente.'

Six pays seront représentés à l’occasion de la douzième édition du TeamWork Geneva match race: la France, la Suisse, l’Australie, la Grande Bretagne, la Finlande et la Slovénie. La compétition se déroulera sur des monocoques de type Surprise.

Programme:

Jeudi 9 octobre : 13:00 préparation technique, pesée?
Vendredi 10 octobre : 9:30 round robin?
Samedi 11 octobre : 9:30 round robin?
Dimanche 12 octobre : 9:30 demi finales et finales. Remise des prix dès 16 heures.
