Marine Rescue Point Danger assists disabled yacht to safety

Rescue vessel Point Danger 30 from Marine Rescue Point Danger base, went to the aid of a yacht with mechanical and sail failure shortly before 10 o’clock this morning.
The yacht, with three people on board had been experiencing strong winds east of Cook Island off the coast of Northern NSW and was forced to seek help when its engine failed and mainsail blew out.
The yacht was travelling south from Queensland and the skipper decided to seek shelter from the conditions.
Radio operators from the Point Danger Marine Rescue base were monitoring the yacht’s radio transmissions all morning.
Point Danger 30 took the yacht under tow and safely crossed the Tweed bar into the calm of the Tweed River. The crew on PD 30 were Mal Owen (Skipper), Chris Quinn and Nick Whyte.
Point Danger is a headland, located at the southern end of the Gold Coast on the east coast of Australia.
