Brunswick Corporation returns to Marine and Fitness core

by Bruce Byots on 20 Sep 2014
Brunswick
Brunswick Corporation has completed the previously announced sale of its Retail Bowling business to Bowlmor AMF for $270 million as it consolidates its activities into the marine and fitness industries.

A key residual division, the Brunswick Boat Group, headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, is the largest maker of pleasure boats in the world. The company's net sales were US$1.7 billion in 2008 and $US$1.0 billion in 2012. The Brunswick Boat Group makes Sea Ray, Bayliner and Meridian pleasure boats; Boston Whaler offshore fishing boats; and Crestliner, Cypress Cay, Harris FloteBote, Lowe, Lund, Princecraft fishing, deck and pontoon boats. Brunswick is one of the largest boat makers by units in Europe, with Quicksilver, Uttern and Valiant boat brands.

As previously stated, Brunswick anticipates net proceeds from both these Bowling Products divestitures and associated actions to be approximately $270 million to $290 million, which reflects the Company's current estimates for taxes and liabilities. Brunswick believes its best opportunity to increase shareholder value is to use these net proceeds to strengthen its Marine and Fitness segments. Brunswick website
