Australian Youth Championship 2015 - Notice of Race released

by Jane Gordon on 15 Sep 2014 The Australian Youth Championship returns to Western Australia for the first time in six years with Fremantle Sailing Club hosting the event from 6 to 10 January 2015.

The event is open to competitors who will be under 19 years of age as of 31 December 2015, and all competitors are required to be members of Clubs affiliated through State Associations with Yachting Australia or another National Authority. Racing will take place in 11 events; boys and girls windsurfers using the Techno 293, Laser 4.7 for boys and girls, Laser Radial for boys and girls, 420 for boys-mixed pairs and girls, 29er for boys-mixed pairs and girls, and an open Hobie 16 event.

Yachting Australia’s CEO, Phil Jones noted, 'Established in 1998, the Australian Youth Championship has grown to become the pinnacle youth sailing event in Australia, regularly attracting over 200 participants vying for national honours and the chance to represent Australia at the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships.'

'Yachting Australia recognises the effort sailors and their families put into attending this event, and whilst it is expensive to conduct such an event on the west coast and for east coast sailors to attend, we are equally grateful for Western Australia’s contribution to the national youth sailing scene through the number and quality of WA sailors traveling to this event over the previous six years. We look forward to welcoming Australia’s best youth sailing talent to Fremantle Sailing Club and we expect they will conduct a world-class event.'

The Notice of Race can be found at event website with competitors able to enter online through the website. Entries close Friday 12 December 2014, and late entries with an additional fee may be accepted until 5 January 2015.

Results from the Australian Youth Championship will be used towards selection of the Australian Sailing Youth Team to represent Australia at the 2015 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship in Malaysia.
