Autumn Regatta underway in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour

The 2014 Autumn Regatta, powered by Audi, got underway in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour today in glorious sunshine and a 6-8kt easterly breeze with 99 boats on the start line, including 18 Etchells and 25 Big Boats in three divisions.

With a significant number of constructions barges moving around in the Kellett Island area, Race Officer Simon Boyde had no choice but to set a Hung Hom start for all classes. The geometric courses he selected encompassed all the Club’s standard harbour marks, taking boats on a harbour tour via Shau Kei Wan, Tai Koo Shing and Kowloon Bay.

For the majority of the races, the breeze held at 090-100 degrees and around 11 to 12kts, better than forecast. With one general recall and three boats scored OCS, there were no protests to be heard after racing. The provisional results are available http://www.rhkyc.org.hk/aurresults.aspx!here!ne and show the current leaders in each Class or Division to be:

Class Boat / Helm
Big Boat Div 1 (IRC) - Elektra / Marcel Liedts
Big Boat Div 2 (IRC) - Whiskey Jack / Nick Southward
Big Boat Div 3 (HKPN) - G.A. / Arthur Ho
Dragon - Zephyr / Tam N
