Africa Europe Challenge introduces 'Spectator's Package'

Having given a serious consideration to feedbacks and remarks from cruisers after the Africa Europe Challenge opened for entries, the organizing team of the AEC have decided to introduce a so called Spectator’s Package so to make it possible for cruisers on a tight budget to take part in their events.

As Mr. József Gál (founder of AEC) explained, the main purpose during this first year of the AEC is to kick off the rallies with as many participants as possible. 'We understand that it is a tough decision to spend the amount of the entry fee on something that has no historical reference. To some it may be like buying a lucky dip. Furthermore, we are also aware of the fact that the majority of our target group are liveaboard cruisers who are struggling hard to save some pennies for their cruising kitty and of course they watch very carefully what they spend it on,' he said.

As an elegant solution to overcome this conflict, the AEC is now offering a Spectator’s Package too. Put simply, it means that any boat that accepts the Media and Sponsorship Policy of AEC can join the ride for free of charge as a spectator. These boats are of course not taking part in the competition but as members of the AEC fleet they are also entitled to some of the advantages that the AEC offers, such as free support from AEC staff or discounts on docking and other marina services. They will also have the possibility of networking with others as well as to attend any of the onshore events, however, there will be certain items they will have to pay for separately if they chose to have them (eg.: catering, beverages, sightseeing trips, etc).

'We are convinced that in case we can organize captivating events, our approach of giving the chance for cruisers to try before they buy will pay off in the long run. Cruisers form a very cohesive and supporting community where word of mouth is the best commercial,' added Mr. Gál.
