Extreme Sailing Series Act 5 - 'Rien n’est jamais acquis'. La phrase résume mieux que tout l’intensité des courses dans la catégorie des Extreme 40, ce circuit international qui réunit certains des meilleurs régatiers au monde.

Au terme des 33 régates disputées en quatre jours de course, l’équipage de The Wave, Muscat, skippé par Leigh McMillan, a remporté la victoire devant Alinghi (Morgan Larsen) et JP Morgan BAR (Ben Ainslie), tandis que l’équipe Realteam, skippée par Jérôme Clerc, avec Arnaud Psarofaghis à la barre et Bruno Barbarian à la tactique, a obtenu un très bon cinquième rang. Grâce à sa consistance, remarquable au fil des épreuves, l’équipe suisse occupe désormais le troisième rang du classement annuel devant Team New Zealand.

'C’était une très belle régate', a déclaré le barreur Arnaud Psarofaghis sitôt la ligne d’arrivée franchie. 'Nous avons égaré quelques points précieux, mais dans l’ensemble le bilan est positif. Nous avons encore beaucoup appris cette semaine, et notamment qu’il ne faut pas nécessairement être tout devant au départ mais qu’il faut être placé; l’anticipation est essentielle.'


Présent aux côtés de l’équipe en tant que coach, Etienne David relève la remarquable consistance de l’équipe, désormais troisième du classement général. 'Les écarts sont si faibles entre les équipes que nous aurions très bien pu finir septièmes. Team New Zealand termine dernier de la course et nous leur repassons devant au général; c’est très positif.'

Bruno Barbarian était de retour à la tactique pour cette étape, et l’équipe a dû s’adapter à cette nouvelle configuration. Comme le relève David: 'Bruno et Arnaud doivent encore améliorer leur communication, mais les progrès sont réels. Ces prochaines semaines, ils vont beaucoup naviguer en Décision 35 sur le Léman et ils auront donc de nombreuses heures de navigation ensemble avant d’aborder les prochaines régates d’Extrême 40. Ils auront tout pour bien faire, et conforter leur position au classement général.'
