by Caitlyn Ridgley on 15 Aug 2014
Representatives from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak and Sector Anchorage were recognized on August 13 for their efforts during and after the rescue of the fishing vessel Alaska Mist, which involved a Coast Guard member, Petty Officer Travis Obendorf, being critically injured during the initial rescue operation. Here they are on stage at the event with Alaska's Congressional Delegation, as well as the state's Lt. Governor, and Coast Guard Foundation Senior Vice President Bradley D. Sisley. Last night, the Coast Guard Foundation hosted the Alaska Awards Dinner. At the event, Geraldo Rivera presented the Coast Guard Foundation with a $40,000 gift to support their work.

Sig Hansen, captain of the Northwestern and star of the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch, spoke at the event as a local commercial fisherman that interacts with the Alaskan coasties and knows the great work they do first hand. The event helped to raise funds for the Coast Guard Foundation and their support of the Alaskan Coast Guard Stations and all those that risk their lives to protect the dangerous Alaskan waters.
