With a few last-minute course tweaks and very cooperative winds, Chester Race Week 2014 got off to a great start. According to One Design Course Race Officer Brian Todd, sailors were treated to near-perfect conditions.

'We had excellent winds, 8-11 knots, and racing was tight, and fun. My race committee team was fantastic, constantly adjusting the course to make it perfect for the sailors.'

Day one of the 2014 J24 National Championships - hosted by Chester Race Week - was won by John Whynacht on Sticky Fingers, sailing out of Lunenburg Yacht Club. In the Farr 30 Canadian Championship, Rob Gale steering One More Time (Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron), took first place. Farr 30 class second place went to first-time Chester Race Week skipper Roland van Hazel on Press Gang out of Toronto’s Royal Canadian Yacht Club, who said the sailing was spectacular. 'We had a great breeze and flat water -- something we never see in Ontario.'
