UK 29er National Championship - No racing on day 4

Stuart Childerley is a multiple sailing champion and Finn Olympian, and also Race Officer at the Zhik UK 29er Nationals; he has often competed at ‘tricky’ championships but the conditions at North Berwick have certainly challenged his race management skills.

Day four dawned light with sunny spells but black rain clouds were looming. Racing was scheduled for 1pm to allow A level students to ‘sort out’ their university placements. By the time the fleet reached the race course a huge black cloud was making slow progress across the Firth of Forth. The course was relaid 90 degrees right, the wind picked up from four knots to 11 knots but then the rain came and the wind disappeared. Racing was postponed after one attempt at a start for Gold fleet but then the fleet was sent home. Three races are needed to consolidate the championship so an 8am start time is planned for the final day.

So Gillies Munro and Dan Harris still top the leader board with 2012 National Champ Matt Venables and Curtis Mearns in second; 2013 Youth National Champs Mimi El Khazindar and Ben Batten in third; 2012 GP series winners Rob and Emma Loveridge in fourth; 2013 National Champ Owen Bowerman and Morgan Peach in fifth.
