Dimension-Polyant takes over Sail Membrane Production ‘D4’

by Dimension Polyant and TetraMedia Sail-World on 4 Feb 2004
Australian Sail Making technology takes on the World.

From February 1st, 2004 the German based Dimension-Polyant, the world's leading manufacturer of sailcloth, is taking over the complete Membrane Technology ‘D4’ from Australia’s Fraser Sails Pty Ltd, of Somersby NSW, Australia and the experienced team of employees under Bob Fraser.

The Doyle Fraser sail lofts including the large Central Coast facility at Lisarow are not part of the acquisition; they will continue to exist independently.

Dimension-Polyant has also entered into a licensing agreement with Genesis International A/S, Denmark concerning rights of use regarding the Membrane Technology of the Genesis patent.

Dimension-Polyant is responding to the needs and requests of many of their customers, with the addition of Sail Membranes to their comprehensive range of sail products on a high level of quality.

The know-how acquired will allow Dimension-Polyant to produce sail membranes according to the individual sail designs provided by sail lofts.

Sails made of ‘D4’ Membranes are recognised worldwide and have proven their success over a number of years. Just recently two new super maxi Yachts, Skandia and Zana, finished first and second in the legendary Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race. Both yachts are equipped with ‘D4’ sail inventories.

The ‘D4’ system is available in a wide range of materials that meet the needs of racing yachts and ocean cruisers with successful applications right through to the largest Mega yachts.

Margret Plöntges and Herbert Cox, Managing Directors of Dimension-Polyant, stated that they were highly satisfied with the extension of the range of products:

‘The D4 Membrane Technology is a useful addition and has great potential for the future. The high quality and durability of this product is in line with our well-known range of sailcloth. The take-over of the Membrane production, and the fact that the experienced team with Bob Fraser will now be part of our company, is optimum in every way’.

Dimension-Polyant is a leading manufacturer of sailcloth for yacht sails, dinghy sails, surf sails, and surf kites, hang gliders, paragliders, hot air balloons and many more. Dimension-Polyant maintains production locations in Germany and the USA and now also in Australia as well as sales offices and warehouses at the most important commercial centres in the world.

As sole supplier of sailcloths Dimension-Polyant produces more than 300 different products (wovens, laminates etc.) in all stages on their own machines.

In all stages means that weaving, fitting, finishing, laminating and all other production steps are summarised in one company. Thus, this guarantees comprehensive controls of all processes and compliance with the maximum quality standards.

This is a huge development on the World Sail Making scene and Sail-World.com will be interviewing Bob Fraser shortly.
