RS400 Northern Championships at Scaling Dam SC

RS400 Northern Championships 2014 - Scaling Dam SC Lisa Metcalfe
A small but very competitive fleet of RS400's gathered at Scaling Dam SC over the weekend of 12-13th July.

Crews had travelled from as far afield as Hickling Broad to the south and Wormit BC to the north.

Race 1, in a light Northeasterly breeze saw Peter Snowdon, crewed by Maddie Metcalfe, from the home club taking an early lead. Wayne and Deb Fletcher (Scaling Dam SC) passed Snowdon on the second beat and went on to win Both Martin Cooper/Meg Fletcher (Scaling Dam) came through to second. Ben Robertson/Hannah Robertson finished third.

Race 2 saw Stuart/Sarah Robertson (Royal Forth YC) taking an early lead again only to be overhauled by the Fletchers. Cooper again pulled through to second and Roger Carter/Ian Robertson (Wormit BC) in third.

Race 3, after a short break, again saw the flying Fletchers taking line honours. Coops and Meg second again, and Stuart/Sarah in third place.

Race 4 finally got away after a postponement while the race officer allowed the failing breeze to settle. This time Cooper broke away with Ben Robertson. Coops took the win while Stuart pinched second and Ben held on to third spot.

The beautiful weather held for an evening BBQ and Kareoke, some staying up later than perhaps was wise.

Sunday morning and a big change in the weather, with overcast skies, occasional light showers and no wind. The race officer delayed for half an hour and eventually a force 1/2 began to fill in from the northwest.

Race 5 saw the Fletchers taking the win after a race-long battle with Roger Carter and Ben Robertson finishing third.

The final race, with visibility reduced by patchy mist, saw Coops taking the win, Wayne second and Roger third.

So Wayne and Deb Fletcher were crowned Northern Area Champions for 2014 with Martin Cooper/Meg Fletcher second and Roger Carter/Ian Robertson third.
