Adventures of a Sailor Girl’ Nic Douglass will be attending the 25th Vision Surveys Airlie Beach Race Week in August Heidi Walton
2014 Airlie Beach Race Week - The girl who is well-known through ‘Adventures of a Sailor Girl’, Nic Douglass will be taking on another adventure when she attends the upcoming Vision Surveys Airlie Beach Race Week.
Nic Douglass, known as ‘Adventures of a Sailor Girl’ has spent most of her time in Tasars and Women’s Match Racing, but she is most well-known for her can do attitude and willingness to be involved and promote the sport across a number of levels and classes.
She has campaigned a number of classes herself, as a crew and a skipper.
Nic’s accomplishments and background include two Tasar World Championships, six Tasar Nationals, winning Kiel in Women’s Match Racing and Match Cup Sweden in 2009, and two Women’s Match Racing National Championships with different teams.
Nic said Airlie Beach Race Week will be an exciting experience as she crews on different yachts each day competing in the regatta, while sharing her adventures.
'I first sailed at Airlie in 2010,' said Nic, 'It is to date one of my favourite sailing adventures. The amazing open water, trade winds, hospitality and pure beauty make Airlie Beach a sailing destination you can't help but love. I have been dreaming about coming back ever since!'
Running from 8-15 August, race week shows off the best of the Whitsunday region with competitive races around the iconic islands, whale sightings and the great atmosphere of Airlie Beach.
Whitsunday Sailing Club Commodore and Airlie Beach Race Week Event Chairman Jim Hayes said it will be a pleasure to have a young, talented sailor like Nic join the fleet in its 25th anniversary year, and to have her broadcasting about her adventures through her radio show as well as social media.
'We are so excited about this year’s event and having Nic attend will be a great bonus,' Mr Hayes said.
This will be Nic’s second trip to Airlie Beach after she won the 2010 Tasar Nationals also hosted by Whitsunday Sailing Club.
In the 25th year of race week, it is expected there will be exciting entries as well as great social events at the Whitsunday Sailing Club. The social highlight will be the 25th birthday party on Monday 11th at the club.
Airlie Beach Race Week is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of a dynamic calendar of events throughout the state.
