Queensland Youth Week Sailing Regatta at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron got underway with 380 competitors aged between six and 18 sailing in 11 classes.
The Invitation Race opened under clear blue skies with RQYS rigging lawns full of action as sailors readied themselves and their dinghies for the 2014 Queensland Youth Week Sailing Regatta.
Christina Bowden, 13 year old Queensland Sabot sailor took a break from rigging to appreciate the great sailing conditions: It is just wonderful Queensland weather - not too cold, with a moderate breeze.
Christina mentioned lots of classes are competing this year and everyone’s really friendly. ‘We’re really supportive of each other. The Sabot sailors from Queensland and NSW had a two day pre-competition training session which was really encouraging’.
The young sailors from interstate and overseas will be sailing on Waterloo Bay on three courses over four days. Race organisers are expecting light to moderate Westerlies before a South-easterly midweek change.
