British Vessels asked to mark First World War Centenary

by RYA on 6 Jul 2014 Vessels at sea and in harbour are requested to signal remembrance on 28 June 2014.

If practical, vessels at sea are requested to fly ensigns at half-mast to indicate mourning in remembrance of the centenary of the First World War.

Vessels in harbour are encouraged to use a remembrance sound signal as may be decided and permitted by the local port authorities at 1700 UTC. This being the hour of the first shot fired in the conflict.
