Ahead of the 2014 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship, India's Varsha Gautham and Aishwarya Nedunchezhiyan are honing in their skiff technique in the 49erFX fleet at the Junior Worlds in Aarhus, Denmark.
After six races the Indian pair have impressed, amassing a consistent string of results and currently sit sixth overall.
Following the conclusion of the 49erFX Junior Worlds the 16-year-old Gautham and 18-year-old Nedunchezhiyan will head home to India before they fly to Portugal for the ISAF Youth Worlds in Tavira from 12-19 July.
The pair will sail the 29er in Tavira and although they mostly train in the 49erFX with one session on the 29er a week they're not worried about their lack of 29er boat time, 'No, actually we think it will go well,' said Gautham. 'The 49erFX keeps us sharp and has improved our 29er sailing. We also went to the Dutch youth regatta in the 29er and it went well.'
Gautham and Nedunchezhiyan will be part of a 30-boat skiff fleet in Tavira and are one of three female teams in the fleet.
At home, crew Nedunchezhiyan is a university student studying Sociology. Her college is very supportive of their racing so all the travel isn't a problem. The Indian duo will finish their career in the 29er with the Asian games in September, and then sail 49erFX from then on completely.
29er racing commences on 14 July at 13:00 with a 13 race series scheduled over five days of
