Syz & Co - Bol d’Or Mirabaud 2014 Miguel Bueno
The Psaros 40 Syz & Co, helmed by Jean Psarofaghis, made history on Lake Geneva on the weekend when it broke the longstanding Bol d’Or Mirabaud monohull record held by Corum since 1994.
The 76th edition of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud enjoyed near perfect conditions on Saturday with bright sunshine and a steady breeze. Several records were broken during the event, amongst them, one of the most sought after on the Lake, the monohull record which Syz & Co smashed by 35 minutes!
Jean Psarofaghis’ Psaros 40 got a good start and raced up the lake towards Le Bouveret at the front of the fleet, valiantly fending off some of the most cutting edge prototypes such as Italian boat Stravaganza and the Hungarian Libera Raffica, both of which are faster in big breeze. Racecourse management and boat reliability won the day however and knowing when to be conservative and when to attack.
'After Stravaganza retired we caught right up to Raffica on the downwind leg back to Geneva,' said skipper Jean Psarofaghis. 'The wind was blowing pretty hard and we were hesitating to put up the spinnaker, but the young guys onboard convinced us that we should. As soon as it went up, Raffica had to do the same to hold their lead, but it went wrong for them and they broke their rig and had to retire. We had a perfect race and took the victory!'
This was Syz & Co’s third Bol d’Or Mirabaud victory (2007-2011-2014) and a record breaking one at that!
