Audi TP52 World Championship - Tough day for Azzurra

by Giuliano Luzzatto on 14 Jun 2014
Azzurra - 2014 Audi TP52 World Championship Martinez Studio/52 Super Series
At the Audi TP52 World Championship, a second place wasn't enough to balance out a fifth and a seventh in the three races that were held today on the waters off Porto Cervo.

The Mistral, that started at seven knots and topped 20 knots, allowed the race committee to complete three windward-leeward races, valid towards the Audi TP52 World Championship and the Barclays 52 Super Series. It was the day of Phoenix, which rose in the overall leaderboard thanks to two bullets, while Azurra went through a day short of her expectations with the only, partial, satisfaction of a second place.

Guillermo Parada, skipper of Azzurra, said: 'It was a tough day for Azzurra. We didn't sail to our potential and we got the results we deserved. Unfortunately, we also had a breakage in the last race which didn't allow us to climb back. It is what it is and when things aren't going your way you have to tough it out. We have to calm down, think it over and go to the final day of racing ready to fight.'

Vasco Vascotto, tactician onboard Azzurra, commented on the day's performance: 'It was a really negative day! In the last race we broke one of the runners when we were still in a good position and despite the second place in the second race, this championship isn't going well. We thought that this Friday the 13th would bring us a completely different kind of luck.'

Racing for the Audi TP52 World Championship, concludes tomorrow, Sunday, June 14th, with more windward/leeward races, scheduled to start at 12 noon. As always, races will be streamed live with Virtual Eye and English commentary here, while real-time updates directly from the race course will be posted on Azzurra's Facebook page and Twitter account.
