The National 18s held their Irish National Championships in Baltimore last weekend.
16 boats were racing including 'Odyssey' and 'Nimrod' (Colman Garvey's classic 18). They had light but steady wind and lots of sun on the Saturday and a 'beautiful' West Cork day on the Sunday (wet and cold) but a nice breeze to move them along.
The OD, Dave O'Brien set three windward leeward courses on the Saturday and three modified Olympic courses on the Sunday.
After Day 1 it was still 'all to play for' albeit Ewan Barry in 'D'Good, D'Bad 'nd D'Ugly' commanding things from the front.
With the new weather came new contenders for the title and local boy(s) Youen Jacob, Nicholas O'Leary and Michael Walsh managed to pip his name sake (Ewan Barry) in the final race. With the winner being decided on count back.
The final results were...
1st Youen Jacob in Clea
2nd Ewan Barry in D'Good, D'Bad 'nd D'Ugly
3rd Tom Crosbie in Sellulite
The event was a great success with a very enjoyable BBQ - Dinner in the new club house, that reaffirmed the great family atmosphere enjoyed by the Class.
Thanks to all the contestants for making the effort to travel, to OD Dave O'Brien and a big thanks to BSC for
