Mike Coe joins UK Sailmakers Annapolis

by Adam Loory on 16 May 2014
Mike Coe UK Sailmakers
Well-known Chesapeake Bay area sailmaker Mike Coe has just joined the new UK Sailmakers Annapolis loft owned by Dave Coughlin and Patty Siebecker. He believes the loft’s philosophy of 'customer service first' matches his dedication to sailing support and education. While working for the largest sailmaker in the world, he was able to help step up the game of weeknight racers allowing them to compete on the regional and national level. His resume includes not only consulting with customers on their sails, but many years of coaching as well, which he believes will help UK Annapolis be uniquely qualified to help bay sailors take their sailing to the next level.

Mike became the Executive Sales Consultant of UK Annapolis on May 12, 2014. His extensive experience on and off the water on offshore boats from 35 to 60 feet as well as with high performance dinghies from 505s to Vipers to J/70s and 80s to Melges 32s makes him the 'go to' guy at the 'go to' loft. Sailors can get help from Mike on sail trim, helmsmanship, sail inventory management, one-design development and much more.

'Growing the UK brand will be good for this area because it is a company focused on keeping the barrier to entry low, while providing a high level of customer service. We all want more people sailing, and we all want more people coming to regattas. UK is focused on helping them get there.' To that point, loft co-owner Patty Siebecker said, 'By owning UK lofts in both New York and Annapolis, we have the volume to support one big production facility in New York, while maintaining a state-of-the-art repair facility in Annapolis that is fully capable of producing sails when needed. We are going to ensure the customer has everything they need to sail safe and fast!'

'Mike is a great sailor and terrific team builder,' said loft co-own Dave Coughlin. 'Just as he built up the J/111 Fireball team, which won the G. Gaither Scott trophy for best performance in the Annapolis to Newport race, he will build our growing team at UK Sailmakers Annapolis.'

Local sailors will have no problem finding Mike. He has been racing Vipers, J/70s, J/80s, Melges 32s, and on offshore boats. He will be working with the best one-design sail designers in the UK group to perfect UK’s J/70 sails and tuning guide.

Mike’s customers have been successful in one design world championships, weeknight racing, coastal racing, offshore racing, bay cruising, and ocean cruising. He is excited to help anyone grow in their sailing success.

Mike can be found at mikec@uksailmakers.com or the loft at:
