GryphonSolo2 prepares for the start of the Atlantic Cup

GryphonSolo2 skipper Joe Harris is happy to be offshore again and is looking forward to taking part in the upcoming Atlantic Cup.

Hello friends-

It must be May again as the good ship GryphonSolo2 is on her way to Charleston S.C. for the start of the Atlantic Cup on May 10. It has been a long winter of no skiing and lots of time in the gym while rehabbing my torn Achilles tendon and it is now time for the first real test. My double-handed co-skipper this year is Pat O’Connor and are now just slipping by Block Island headed southwest for about 700 miles around Cape Hatteras and on to Charleston. The boat is in good shape with no significant projects undertaken over the winter and we are looking forward to this delivery down to shake off the cobwebs and get into fighting trim.

I was planning on doing the Global Ocean Race - solo around the world - this year but the race was recently postponed for one year so is now scheduled to go in September 2015. I was quite disappointed by the postponement but am still hoping to do the race if the stars can re-align. For now, I am focused on the Atlantic Cup in May, then the Newport-Bermuda race in June, then re-focusing on my real estate consulting practice to earn some dineros.

So that’s it for now from GS2- beating our way southward on the first sunny day in some time and happy to be offshore again.
